Be the Glue

I have always believed in the importance of being the glue that holds a company, group, or team together. Without going into detail you might not fully grasp what I mean.

To “Be the Glue” means to actively seek connections with everyone, building relationships that bring your team together. This approach is a must have if you are looking to create a strong team culture. When I look and see a lack of culture in a company, I take it upon myself to spread positivity and enjoyment in the workspace, and encourage everyone to take the “Be the Glue” mentality and make it their own.

By taking part in this mentality, it’s also important to listen to your teammates. Pay close attention to their needs and concerns and offer support when it is needed. This could be as simple as listening or providing feedback on situations that are brought to you. To add to this, ensure you create an inclusive environment where everyone is valued and considered in decisions as that will grow the bond amongst your team. Be sure to encourage open communication and celebrate different ideas and perspectives as your ideas may not work with others. This all plays into the “Be the Glue” mentality. As when you bring more people into the environment they become part of what keeps everyone together.

By continually applying these ideas, you not only strengthen your team, but also contribute to a more positive and productive work environment. This mentality not only benefits your peers, but also helps you grow as a leader, and drives success throughout the entire organization.

As you bring more people into the “Be the Glue” mentality (you may call it what you please to fit your team), this approach will continue even when you depart or move on to a greater position, whether within the company or outside. If done, correctly, this mentality should stick around – much like glue, which is, after all, sticky.

I encourage everyone to adopt this mentality to not only improve themselves but also strengthen the organization they are a part of. When your team thrives, so does everyone else within your organization!
